In 2003 he resided in Virginia. Drake has completed much of his genealogy, tracing five generations of family history to his great-great-grandparents. His father, John G. Drake (1921-1945) was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He worked as as firefighter for the city of Brooklyn, Ohio, and also served in World War II for twelve months in the Pacific Theater of Operation. John G. Drake married Margaret Mary Flanagan (1920-1993), who was also born in Cleveland and who worked as a factory worker in Norfolk, Virginia. Her grandmother Anna Noonan (1868-1952) came from Flagmount, County Clare, Ireland. Drake's maternal grandmother, Richard E. White (1859-1927) worked as a Cleveland policeman and died as a result of a motorcycle accident.
